DicksnJanes #187: andragogy

The Scarborough Dude makes the mistake of studying when he'd rather be drinking beer.

That theory you talked about is interesting, that said I find such theories pretty wooly. The theorist creates some sort of formula. Formulas are great. However, they are only useful if you can measure the stuff in the theory. A theory should predict stuff and organize data. I find this hard to believe (that this can predict anything). Nice to hear about it though.

I hope I'm attaching this to the right episode; it's been nearly a couple of weeks since I listened to it, but I kept a few notes so the trail seems reliable; I'll spare you too much detail

You mention a music podcast called Zygiella -- it was about gigs and such local to Toronto. A search for that led to another podcast called Narratives, which is now defunct, the podcaster having gone on to do a PhD. After that (i.e. currently), she's working as a career counsellor specializing (IIRC) in PhD-holders leaving academia. She has an article on LinkedIn that mentions a book called "Comfortable with Uncertainty", which sounded interesting so I just got one of the Toronto Public Library's copies. Check it out if you get the chance.
