For several days since the devastation in Japan I've been watching Yokosonews.com along with feeds from NHK and TBS.
Katz on Yokosonews has been translating highlights from the Japanese feeds to english. How he does it is astounding to me. As he's reading out the casualty figures tears start to run down my cheeks. I can't deal with the loss of innocent life and the horror survivors are facing.
As Katz reads the total dead as being over 10,000 his Japanese demeanor dips slightly as he pauses while the figure sinks in. The lives of more than 10,000 of his countrymen have been simply snuffed out. ...Many more missing...
He recovers quickly and continues to read out radiation counts from Fukushima number 2 reactor.
Horror upon horror until numbness takes over.

Thanks for sharing the story about the tale of the cats. In addition to being a touching story, as you were telling it it felt like there was a tale being told beneath the surface... maybe several. It's sad that they won't be there to share the space with you when you visit.

I have just removed a comment from someone who left no name, just a link to a blog, no introduction, and a very generic comment, something like: 'Great post, please link to my blog'.

The reply, of course, is 'fuck you!' How about next time you leave a real comment, as if you actually listened to the podcast (not blog) and maybe introduce yourself so that we might have a reason to maybe want to check out your 'new' blog. Get it? Understand who I say fuck you & delete your comment? Good- that's a start.

No offense taken whatsoever- and hope you didn't take any if it seemed I didn't trash talk you back on equal terms. I've been thinking about this a lot- and will take up this topic on my next podcast; it relates to the variety of friendships we all need. I find I very much value havin ga juvenile kind of friendship like I enjoy with Tim- just the freedom of being silly, like I'm back in high school.

But in my case that only works with a few friends; I also need mature friendships where I wouldn't want to talk that way, and much prefer to talk politics or education or technology. And of course friendships wherein the style of conversation has not yet been pre-defined, and those friendships where it changes from inane to profound, etc.

In short, I need a wide variety of friends to express my different selves and different needs. Bottom line: I welcome you into the conversation- thanks for joining. And forgive me for not yet being ready to say fuck off, asshole. (But that needn't stop you)
